Why self-care is vital in our journey of growth and for living an authentic life.

I have become a true believer in self-care. It is one of the new ways I balance my life. There needs to be a balance. You need to take time to nurture your mental, physical, emotional and spiritual wellness.

I never practiced self-care, it used to feel like doing things to make me feel good were selfish and I didn’t think that I had time for such activities anyway. I was often the last on my list of priorities and was I felt burnt out ALL the time. Taking care of myself or spending time out of my day for me was a foreign concept. I spent my entire life feeling this way, then I started my Life Coach journey and once I started this program, and practiced it continuously, I started to see how it was affecting my life for the better. Now, I can no longer have that old belief that I don’t deserve it. It no longer serves me to live this way. ... NOW I wouldn’t know what to do without it daily and sometimes even hourly, when needed. I feel practicing self-care has become one of my most useful daily tools and it’s a go-to solution for so many situations that may cause stress.

I have learned that the more intense my emotion are, the more self-care I need. I have found it’s a balance, the amount you give, or grow is the same amount you must receive in return through self-care. Honoring yourself helps you connect with who you are. You intuitively know what you need. You may not even realize it at the time, but you need to allow yourself the opportunity to nurture yourself, even if your mind doesn’t agree.

A good way to clear your mind is to use self-care, this helps to rejuvenate and recharge your mood. When you step back and take a deep breath you can look at the situation causing you stress from a fresh perspective.

Two examples of self-care that I use in my life to help me regain my perspective are:

Spending time outdoors, I love nature and it grounds me and helps me to relax.

I play music to raise my spirits, we all have that anthem that gets us in a good mood, I play that and rock out! Loosing myself if the music gets me that bounce in my step.

Self-care may look different from person to person, but it really depends on your intuition and what it needs. Sometimes self-care looks like: fun, working out, journaling, being in nature, etc. My husband’s form of self -care is doing the activities that bring him the most joy. He likes to surf, play video games, and spend time on social media. His self-care is completely different from mine, but that is what he intuitively needs.

When you are practicing shifting your thoughts a lot of changes are happening on an energetic level. The clearing of old thought patterns and old ways of thinking require a lot of energy. Make sure to get plenty of rest and take care of your physical wellness too. Take some time to rest and recover. You don’t have to push yourself too hard. Step back, take care of yourself. Your moments of self-care will provide you with energy, value, purpose and creativity. Find a healthy balance and enjoy your life, so you can always be Shining Your True Light!
